Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop in individuals who have experienced prolonged and repeated trauma. Unlike traditional PTSD, which is often triggered by a single traumatic event, C-PTSD is associated with ongoing exposure to trauma, such as childhood abuse, neglect, or long-term interpersonal violence. People with C-PTSD may experience a range of symptoms, including emotional dysregulation, difficulty with relationships and trust, chronic feelings of shame and guilt, self-blame, and a distorted sense of self-worth. Other symptoms may include difficulty with concentration and memory, dissociation, hypervigilance, and a heightened startle response.
